Folks,

who here experiences tendonitis? I have battled it in the past, but low volume training has helped eliminate the possibility of getting tendonitis. Tell me your stories of pain.

Seems like my brachioradialis near the outer elbow used to flare up.

yes... I have had that same problem... basically not using the straight bar on curls solved the problem.

Doing hang-cleans destroyed my wrists... first my left, and after that healed, my right got blasted pretty bad... it is starting to get better... I have hence, given up doing them.

I had tendonitis in my elbow and it was the most painful thing ever....rather give birth actually....

you need to ice it often, rest it, if you can find one, a C hiro who preforms ART (Active Release Technique) after a couple of months of PT I finally went to this CHiro a powerlifting buddy was yelling at me to go to...and after 2 treatments I was doing bicep curls again...I cann't live w/out this man....

There is also a strap you can get for your forearm, which redirects the pressure away from the tendons to the elbow, it does help....

Good luck and feel better

I've had it with flare ups off and on for a few yrs. in my right shoulder and just recently in my elbow. I went for treatment by a chiropractic kinesiologist combined with deep tissue massage and in about a month I was much better. A few yrs. ago the dr. put me on anti-inflamatories which I now understand slows healing. I did a few months of pt before I felt better that time.

Active Release Technique (ART)! I've been going to a level 3 ART practitioner since November, and it's done wonders for me! I started going because my hip flexors were so screwed up I couldn't do the splits for my routine any more. He had me whipped into shape in time for a comp in December, and I've gone weekly ever since. Elbow bugging me - he fixes it immediately. Hip a little achy; no problem. I will no longer live with pain because I don't have to!

I was turned onto ART by a PL friend who almost gave up competing, his body was so beat up. His first year of ART, he won the gold in the squat and placed third overall at the World Championships. This was the best placing he'd had in 10 years. He goes weekly for maintenance as well.

Here's a website for info:

I've had a pile of tendonitos with out even realizing it....
Caused many problems...
My bicep tendon had so much scar tissue on it that it would get massively impinged on almost every upper body movement... Went to a deep tissue massage therapist and he made a WORLD of a difference after over 7 doctors told me I'd have to live with it for life.
Recently my elbow has started to bother me... Ive been doing lots of stretching in hopes that it wont get any worse
Thanks
Ryan

I've had bicep tendonitis off and on for the past year or more. I haven't had any problems in several weeks now since I have added doing band curls 2x a week for sets of 15 or so. I also put icy hot on them before every workout.

I've had both elbow tendonitis and bicep tendonitis for a long time and the biggest help has been dave tates trigger wheel

I was starting to get pain in my elbow. It was when I got up to 120lbs db for over head tricep press. I now have to cycle them in and out of my workout. It's ashame, because that, along with weighted dips, and close grip press are just about the only things that pack on the mass for my triceps.

When I do get this pain, I find that rubbing a little biofreeze on my elbow does wonders. Don't put on too much, a little goes a long way. Also, if you rest your elbow on your desk, while on your computer, put a small pillow on the desk, and rest your arm on that. It helps me a lot.

Seems like when I battle tendonitis that lying tricep extensions, barbell rows, and heavy curls affect the area. I never have problems using other compound exercises.

If the elbow area becomes a problem, I will not hessitate on taking days off from the gym. The last thing I need is joint degeneration or the chance on increasing an injury. I also like to use icy hot and other forms of therapy.

I overtrained my elbows - more so than my left than my right. I had to take 8 weeks off from the gym. Was on Naproxen for 2 weeks & total rest, per Doc. I found that BenGay and ice did wonders! (Don't use them together.) Rest is the main key.

I'm just now starting back into the gym using light weights and training 3 days a week. I can NEVER do French Presses or Skullcrushers ever again - that's how I killed my elbows. I haven't trained my triceps in over 8 weeks. Too afraid, I guess. Will have to attempt some bench dips & pulldowns.

I take glucosamine & flax seed. It is helping a lot.

I get it mostly in the forearms, I work in outside labor, then train, it doesn't take much to get a flare up.
