Okay, I've wanted to include griptraining into my routine more seriously in a long time. So I've spend some time gathering and making griptraining equipment, but weuld love to hear your comments about what you think I would need and perhaps some tips about how to use them most productively..

So far, I've made a rolling thunder out of a waterpipe, with an external dia of 2.5" and a rope to hook around weights.

I've made a pinchgrip block out of a 2x4" wooden block with a rope to hook around weights.

I've made 2 2-inch dumbbell, which I so far have been using for incline presses, cleans and ovehead- or sidepresses, pulls and curls.

Furthermore, I've started making a 2-3/8" bar for presses and deads and more..

What more would i need..? the only thing that really comes to mind are coc's and perhaps 3" DB's like PolishHammers. But Since I have relative small hands, perhaps these would be overkill..!

Second point..: I train 3, sometimes 4 times a week. How would you include griptraining? I would think that training the grip 3 times a week would be suitable, but how would you divide the exercises!

Looking forward to hearing from some of the more experienced grip"trainers".. :einstein:

I would throw in one aspect of grip training each day you train. work into it gradually. If you need more increase, if you need less decrease.

A thick bar, rolling thunder, thick dumbbell, and pinch grip blocks are definitely ways to start.

I'll try that and report back.. yesterday i did around 3-4 sets of both the 2" rolling thunder and the pinch grip hold for ca. 30 seconds. And today my hands are totally busted and both thumb are a little bruised with blisters. I love it.. :D

Try to focus on one aspect on grip training per day until your hands are used to it. For example;

day one - crush
day two - pinch
day three - supporting or static holds

I would think that would be more beneficial yes, at least in the start!! Yesterday was more a test of the new equipment. I just couldn't wait. hehe..

Eh, the rolling thunder. What catagory would that be under..? I thought it would be more of a forearm and wrist-extensor workout, but they actually felt more like working the same as my 2" dumbbells and I felt it alot in my thumbs when the weights was just remotely heavy!

Rolling thunder is in the same category as supporting or static holding. Right now i would consider that as your grip work if you are truly just beginning.

You can use a wrist rolling device every day as a warm up or as a grip exercise. I think it is a very versatile action.

You are definitely going to feel it in your thumbs bc your thumbs are the strongest part of your hand. You have to work hard to develop the thumb. Pinching will really develop that.

Sound great - and extremely motivating! hehe..

I definately feel that my thumb is my limiting factor. My buddy and me have been doing some 2" db clean and presses and I just can't seem to cross 55kg. Have both cleaned and pressed the 55 kg several times, but 60 kg just won't go up.. But I believe that with a stronger grip that should come along pretty quick..

But thanks for the advice, man.. really appreciate it!

you got it man. I have spent a good amount of time in the last year or so compiling info, talking to people, and testing out all kinds of methods to see what works best for me.

I have lots of ideas to make grip tools (none of which are my own) and how to use them to maximize your grip performance.

Anytime man.

Sounds absolutely great..!! You can count on me posting for some of it, as soon as I get a little more adjusted to griptraining and have figured out what works for me and what doesn't.. Grip training is bad-ass. hehe..
