Ok so we're still on a mission to get a family rig. Drove one of these last night and I think we've got a keeper.

the storage space in back, its plastic not carpet, perfect for the ratty dogs

here are some shots, we're thinking black in color thus far and then customize the wheels and change out all the LED lights to something I like, PINK, since its my main rig. There are some sick customs out there already.. :D saying no to the overly done (IMHO) chrome package tho.

Nice. I like it much better than the PT.

I would just get a minivan, seriously this is not a jab post at all. I have 4 kids and we needed something to haul them and all their soccer crap around. We went with a Suburban though.

I believe in the Jan '06 edition of Consumer Reports, they tested 4-5 of these CUV-type vehicles and the HHR came in last in all of their ratings. I'll check when I get home tonight.

I could never bring myself to buying a mini van.....

Me neither, that's why we got the Suburban. But if you are considering the rounded look of a PT or HHR that seems more like a minivan than a truck.

can't do a minivan and can't do the $ for a burban, especially since its my car to & from the city 80% of the time.
curious about the reports :D

I like this much more than that other boxy hearse looking thing!

Dogs will slide around on the plastic though... my Rodeo has carpet and a rubber mat on top... the back storage area is also PERFECT to fit my dog crate in.

that report was kind of funny
it said the HHR was slugush then on the rateing for acceleration is rated very good.
But CR usually has pretty good info.
I do think it is a pretty nice looking vehicle though, i like almost everything CHEVY though

I wouldn't be caught dead in one of those things. Quite possibly one of the ugliest family vehicles GM has ever produced ;)

Why not get a used 02-03 Tahoe for around the same price? Twice as much room, and twice as nice with similar gas mileage.

yeah they will BUT am thinking of some velcro pads and a few blankets that we have, simple enough to stop some of that but washable... hate bad smells..

the accelaration did not feel bad... but here's the caveat... I'm a super duper lead foot, when I get in anything with power or balls, I am dangerous. no shit. that's why I bought my 4banger Ford Ranger, it keeps me honest....

I guess I can honestly say, you can hardly ever go wrong with brand new and if you aren't expecting much but transportation to and from with the ability to carry dogs in the back, the car looks like it would do the job.

NOW, if you are planning to put money into it I would just put the same money towards something else like a Tahoe or Suburban, but that's just me.

told Mo that we'd go drive one again... with her in the back, want to drive/try the turning a circle/corners thing...

won't be dropping real money into it... we'll save that for the Blazer no doubt, or for Fork's truck, damn he's got expensive taste

I also wouldn't recommend buying the first model year of ANY vehicle. There is always glitches, and I guarantee you'll be back in for warranty work at least twice a year for the first couple of years.

This is a GM master tech mechanic giving you this advice BTW ;)

well Chevy did their version of the PT- I personally have pushed to many GM products to invest in another. Bought my wife a Yukon and pushed it out of the garage 3 time all with under 20,000 miles- I have since bought her a Ford Eddie Bauer Excursion w/Powerstroke Diesel- hands down the most bang for the buck and still get 18 miles to the gallon

I like minivans. 4 captain's chairs, plenty of leg room, plenty of storage space, easy to get in and out of (especially after leg day), you can sleep in it, and I believe you're less likely to get pulled over. If gas economy weren't an issue, I'd get one, even though I don't have a family.
