TULSA - Derek Poundstone racked up 45 points on day two of the "World Strongman Challenge" to claim second place - overtaking Jon Andersen, who seemed to have the runner-up spot sewed up after his remarkable performance in the Car Squat on day one.
IFSA World Champion Zydrunas Zavickas cruised to the 19-point win that included three event wins and four second-place finishes.
After the second event Poundstone actually trailed Andersen by 12 points.
"I try to be consistant in every event," Poundstone said. "I don't think I place lower than third in any event. The squat I got zero but so did everyone else but Jon and Zydrunas."
Andersen was hurt by his results in the Farmer's Walk/Power Stars Medley and the Car Deadlift (tied for 4th).
The police officer from Naugatck, Connecticut said he impressed even himself on how well he did.
"I never thought I'd come in here and do as well as I did today," Poundstone said. "I would say I always go out and do the best I possibly can, like everyone else."
Andersen was third, Tommi Lotta of Finland staged a comeback of his own and took fourth while Van Hatfield finished fith, Walt Gogola sixth and Matt Wanat seventh (Gogola and Wanat were tied with 40 points but Gogola takes sixth on event finishes).
Darren Sadler of Great Britain cruised to the 105k championship winning four of the seven events, tying for first in another and finishing second in another.
Maris Rosenthal took second and Kirk Nowack finished third.

THANKS EVERYONE!! I got back to Connecticut around noon after leaving the hotel at 4:30 this morning. We didn't finish the contest until around 11:00 P.M Saturday night and I didn't get back to the hotel until after midnight because of the awards ceremony. I did end up going out and having a few drinks so I haven't got any sleep yet but short nap once I got home. The show was unbelievable and there was a great group of very capable competitors. I didn't really shine in any event but as the ACS site said I placed no less then third in any event and placed first in the tire flip sled drag medley. This contest was freaking heavy and I ended up getting a few small hemorrhages in both my eyes from the very heavy squat. I got the implement off the ground a few times but the ROM was very awkward. I so badly didn't want to take a zero and didn't think I could afford too. I was extremely pleased with third place after the first day and once I saw I was gaining on Anderson I couldn't help but leave it all out there. I'll have a complete write up with some pics and video (hopefully) in the next day. Thanks again everyone! Now I need to go Ice myself and take tons of Advil!!
Damn Derek, great job.. I cant wait to see where this leads you too. Time to become a super freak!!

Hey Travis, what time did you guy finish boozing it up?? I liked Jenny's comment to Georgette about her boobs in the elevator!! That was awesome, I guess you weren't the only boob person in Tulsa!! BTW, that Equi-block fucking killed. Before the opening cerimony I was hopping around like a mad man from the burning. I hope your pec tear is doing better. You need to PM me you contact info if you dont mind. Also, Georgette isn't scared of you anymore!!
Congratulations, man. I haven't posted much on IT, but I check in on a few journals, yours is one in particular, for motivation to train hard. That was an absolutely loaded field in Tulsa and you've got lots to be proud of. You most definitely made a name for yourself beating some of the best in the business.
