SEATTLE — A newly opened store catering to very pampered dogs, especially female dogs, is getting more than questioning looks for its name, High Maintenance Bitch.

The third word in the sign is widely visible at North 45th Street and Wallingford Avenue North, one of the main intersections in the Wallingford neighborhood business west of Interstate 5 and north of the Lake Washington Ship Canal.

"I am probably the most progressive liberal person in the world and I am personally offended by the sign," said Janet Stillman, executive director of the Wallingford Neighborhood Office. "It's so blatant and so in your face."

The sign is the issue more than products such as Gel-ous Bitch bath gel and Street Walker paw cleanser, said Kara Ceriello, co-president of the Wallingford Chamber of Commerce.

Ceriello said she supports the store but has heard complaints from about a dozen people.

"It is going to be a hot issue again when we get to our Wallingford Kiddie Parade and Street Fair," she said.

Hahaha now thats funny. If I walked down the street in my city and saw that, it would look really out of place.. very unlike the 'classy' shops that line our streets. That being said, I wouldn't cry about it. Understandably, it goes with the feel of the store.. but the owners could suffer huge just by the name.

They say it on TV and it is in the dictionary. Kids learn at a very youg age that a female dog is know as a bitch.

If Janet Stillman is a liberal as she says she is, then it would not bother her so much. I guess I could be classified as somewhat conservative and it does not bother me. I think it is fairly clever for the approach to a buisness.

Seatle might not be the right place for "Dirty Ass". Maybe around the Grand Canyon or maybe Mexico......some place that you can have a customer base. If you open it in Seatle, they might think that you are referring to the surplus population of hippies!

Maybe you could open a Hippy grooming place called " You dirty ass, over opinionated, complain about everything and yet do nothing, and by the way....you stink Hippy". That might work a little better in Seatle. :rofl:
