The War Within -- By Citruscide
Everyday I enter the colosseum, my battlefeild... my station for sanity... and insanity. I walk through the glass doors... the intensity begins now... I can feel the iron inside, calling to me.
As I step into the hallowed grounds, where generations of warriors have spilt their sweat, their blood and their guts... I enter... everyday, to make my contribution... everday... to spill a little bit more... to make the memories of those past proud.
The music starts... in my head... I hear it, but not for long... it is only a precursor to what is to come... the first step, to the apex of the battle... that starts... with a steel bar and piles of lead... once molten, once part of the earth... for over a millenium the metal that I will push today has been forged within the depths of the ground I walk on... today... I mold my own.
Squatting my max weight... my thoughts are everywhere... and no where... I see only a blinding light... I can't hear my own shouts of desire... desire to reach the top of the movement on the final rep... all sound has passed... i only hear my heart pumping blood into my head... into my legs. To the unknowning onlooker, it is a guy doing squats... to the trained eye... to the fellow warrior... they see the battle that is going on... they see the victorious rack the magnitude of iron on his shoulders... they see the look on the face... they know... the pain and pleasure... of a battle won.
As I leave the the hallowed halls... I stagger... I leave torn down... ready to build. I make eye contact with a man, in his latter 50's... his knee wrapped... arm with a brace... he looks at me... with a smile... I smile back. He was in my shoes... he has fought my battle... and is still fighting... a silent general... on the feild of a greater battle.
