Hi people.

This is my first post and hope I'm posting to the correct forum etc.

Basically I am just about to start attending the gym and watch my diet and thought I'd ramble on about my situation with the intention of getting some valuable input. :D

Does anyone know of a site with a beginners guide or can you guys answer my questions?

I am 23, 6ft, 80kgs/176Lbs. My aim is to lose some weight off my belly and face and get fit and a bit of muscle, nothing extreme or bulky (although a six pack and pecks would be sweet).

I re-joined the gym last week and plan to go three times a week (mon, wed & friday mornings 11am ish).

I start on the treadmill and I can run at 10k for 15 mins then I'm really hot and short of breath. Then I just float about on the weight machines (not free weights), do a bit of the bench one, the chest one, the beciep one etc.
I am also going to start doing 100 situps each night before bed. Oh yeah and I can do about 30 press ups in a go.

I'd love a work out plan but its not that kind of gym so I just do each thing until I can't do anymore then chill then hit it again for about 30 mins in total.

I don't really eat meat but like veg and salad and tuna. Also I drink loads of beer.

So bascially what I'm asking is what should I eat before I work out and what after. What kinda meals should I be eating or avoiding and anything else.

Hope this wasnt way off topic, if so I appologise.

Many thanks - Joe

eat lots of protein and complex carbs, do 5 sets of 5 with deadlift, squat, incline bench, that should be the focus of your workout.

All I can say is read.

Go to your local bookstore and purchase some books that relate to exercise.

Spend some time educating yourself about anatomy and physiology.

Educate yourself about diet and how the body processes food.

I am not qualified to give you full-blown advice on a training forum.

For now. . .

Ok - I will.

I'm just off to the gym now - 2 slices of toast for me.

If JF is a bodybuilder I would say that you are big man.
