View Full Version : Got Bloat?

For nearly a year I've had terrible bloat and water retension even though I drink a fair high quantity of water. Three doctors, two blood tests, one muscle test ad one scratch test I've found out that I have allegeries and/or sensitivities to the following items:

wheat
flour
oats
dairy
sesame
soy
sugar
citrus

In addition to the food allergies they found vitamin/minerial deficiencies in iron, manganese, zinc, b-5, and c.

So, for about three weeks, I've taken these extra vitamins and I haven't had any of the above items - except for the one day I ordered sushi and there were sesames seeds and I ate it anyway.

The bloat is nearly gone.

Hives gone. (except for the sushi/sesame seed day)

So far I have found that the sesame and the soy have the worst effect on me. It's process and I thought I'd share it in case there are other women here suffering from similiar ailments and didn't know.

End of the week I have my follow up appointment - we'll see what happens.

Yep.

This is how I ended up going down the tofu and veggie vegan road. The last time I had any wheat (these luscious whole wheat and raspberry fruit bars from our local whole foods market), half of my face broke out in ugly, puffy red hives - I felt like the Phantom of the Opera.

Glad to hear your symptoms are improving, velvett. :)

Really? I had no idea.

I've been eating crazy amounts of veggies - gaint stir fry of what ever I can get my hands on.

Maybe I'll be normal again by 2005.

I think a properly done food allergy test is worth it's weight in gold to help most people really dial in their diets. Everyone is different, and generic diets may work for some, but allergies can undermine even the best laid out plan.

bigbadone...just lay of the dbol. I think you might be allergic to it!

My boyfriend was noticing bloating in his lower abdomen. he went to get it checked out and it turned out that his kidney and liver were damaged and thus not being able to excrete anything. The doctor said that was due to him not cycling creatine, high protein diet, and messing with his electrolyte levels so much. The doc said it wasn't past repair, but he needed to change his diet. He has stopped supplementing with everything, and lowered his protein content and thankfully he is on the road to recovery, but he is bummed that he won't be able to compete. I told him health first!!

Bloat=POWER

Preach, sista. :weight:

Although, I can't talk. I'm almost down to 190! Training for the state 800m record. ;)

MS, how common is it for food allergies to change through the years? Last I was tested, I didn't have any food allergies, but that was 4 years ago.

Holy Moly Susan. It's hard to keep up with ya. It seems like one day you are power lifting, the next day you are 800m racing. Talk about versatile!!!

Women are more prone to allrgies of all kinds compared to men. But I think you should be fine 4 years after your last test, UNLESS you are experiencing unexpected fluid retention or other food allergy problems. After all, things certainly can change as we age, but you are still young and fit enough that I wouldn't be too worried. Go and knock 'em dead.

In my experience I just hit a certain age and all aspects of my body, skin and hair just changed. Oddly enough these changes happened at the same that I moved from the city to the boonies of the country.

now the liver and kidney thing scares me as right now i am bloated and swollen both (double whammy). Some days people ask me if i am menstruating, which i know is a joke but when i break it down it still sucks.

I recently had a follow up visit and it seems that I'm aborbing the v/m well and the doctor added a few more to the packs.

There are some changes going on that I didn't even hope for - like waking up in the morning and not feeling like I have the hangover of 91', my skin is starting to change back to its normal complextion, the severe body aches are mostly gone and in the next two weeks I'll see if I can break a no migraine record I haven't touched in some time.
